The Prague Castle, an ancient symbol of the Czech lands, is the most significant Czech monument and one of the most important cultural institutions in the Czech Republic.
This is the place where the Kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman Emperors and presidents of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic have had their offices.
The Prague Castle’s history dates back to the 9th century, around 880, when it was founded by Prince Bořivoj of the Premyslid Dynasty (Přemyslovci). According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Prague Castle is the largest coherent castle complex in the world, with an area of almost 70,000 m².
The Prague Castle has been rebuilt many times over the centuries, so it virtually represents every architectural style of the last millennium. It consists of a large-scale composition of palaces and ecclesiastical buildings of various architectural styles, from Roman-style buildings from the 10th century through Gothic modifications in the 14th century.
Considered a UNESCO World Heritage site, most of the castle areas are open to the public. Among these are the Gothic St Vitus Cathedral, the Basilica of St. George, and several palaces, museums, gardens, and defensive towers.

I so want to be a Princess of Bohemia living in that castle!!!
Ha! You sure will be the Princess of Bohemia living on that castle. This is the best place in the world to be a Bohemian. So artsy and so cultural… I love it!
The first time I was in Prague (one of only two visits) the country was still called Czechoslovakia! That was so long ago I’m not even sure if I spelt it right. Anyway I fell in love with the place and you’re photo gives a very good sense of the city’s elegance.
