Weekly Snapshot: Old San Juan’s Walls

Old San Juan

Old San Juan’s Walls – San Juan, Puerto Rico

These are the massive wall that once surrounded and sheltered the city of Old San Juan to protect it from any maritime or foreign invasion.  Several defensive structures, such as the emblematic Fort San Felipe del MorroFort San Cristóbal, and La Fortaleza, acted as the primary defenses of the city which was subjected to numerous attacks. Today, most of the walls are still intact, giving Old San Juan this characteristic 16th-Century-Spanish-Era look and making it a historical place not to miss when visiting Puerto Rico.
