Oskar Schindler’s Factory – Krakow, Poland
This is where Oskar Schindler saved the lives of over a thousand Jews during the Holocaust. In order to keep the Jews alive, he employed them in his enamelware and ammunition factories. During the Holocaust, employed Jews (or any other imprisoned subjects) were not killed for no reason, something Nazi guards used to do out of “pleasure”.
The building pictured above is the enamelware factory, located in Krakow, Poland. What’s interesting is that Oskar employed the Jews, even when they were not necessary for labor, as there was no demand for the enamelware at the time. The who production was just a big cover to keep the Jews alive until the end of the war – when Schindler was already bankrupt. This moment in history is depicted in the movie Schindler’s List by Steven Spielberg – highly recommended!
