Weekly Snapshot – Harlem Snow

Harlem Snow

Harlem, New York

I have seen a lot of snow this winter season; and when I say a lot, I truly mean A LOT!  In a short period of over a month we’ve had over 7 snow storms; making this January the whitest in 86 years.  Even though I’m “up to here” with all the snow after this snowmaggedon (sorry, it makes going out and my daily commute a hassle), it still manages to make me gasp when I go out that door and see that white fresh snow coating every possible inch it can hold on to.  This last snow storm was no exception.  I still get amazed by how beautiful the snow always looks and how gentle it feels.  That is until I have to jump through hoops to get from place to place… but that’s another story.

Hi! I just came back on tuesday from a cold-snowy 5 days in New York… the lowest day temperature was -16ºC, but I heard that it has gotten even colder…!!

Anyway, I really loved it up there… despite the cold, the snow just makes the City look so much more… romantic and calm. Really beautiful. I wrote a bit about the snow in NY too… in case you want to check out!

    Cheers!

Hey Katherina! Nice to see you around! eek!! -16ºC is really cold for me too. I just hibernate when it’s that cold. haha!

So true, the snow gives the city a different character, almost like it slows down its fast pace.

You have a really nice post on your view up the Empire State. Nice shots!

      Cheers!

Our friends in Britain have been plagued with snow this winter. We thought they were all being miserable and boring when they complained. It looked so beautiful on TV…and then we remembered they have commutes by train, motorway, detours around closed roads. Not much fun after all! :) Great to see all the kids on sledges though. No commutes for them.

Haha… Exactly, looking at it is beautiful… but being in it while commuting… eh! But I admit I’ve had my share of fun playing with it! :)

That is a good shot! You know I have never ever seen snow. Yeah I have seen sleet that falls once every five years here in Houston but never real snow. One day I will see snow and build me a cute lil snowman!

Thanks Jaime! Then you should come up here before going to Costa Rica. We have plenty of snow to build an army of cute lil snowmen! haha! :)

Speaking of snowmen, have you seen the GIANT one in Chinatown? It’s quite impressive (and taller than me!)

And nice pic! Makes the snow look pretty and not like the nuisance it really is!

Oh no, I haven’t seen it yet. I might have to go down there to take a look at it before it melts. Though it snowed again, so doubt that will happen soon… lol. :)

Nice pic, Norbert. I love the way the snow is clinging to the branches. On the other hand, we’ve had three snowfalls in Atlanta this winter and it is a pain….mostly because we aren’t prepared to handle it. The city has two snowplows, so it was impossible to clear the streets. I’m the first to admit, as a rule, we can’t deal with it, which is why everything pretty much shuts down when we get the white stuff.

    • Norbert January 31, 2011 at 2:40 pm #

Thanks Renee! Yes, I love that too. I was so impressed by how the snow stuck to almost everything.

Yikes! Handling three snowfalls with only two snow plows must be really difficult for the city. Here in NYC we have hundreds of snowplows and the city can barely keep up. Actually, on the big blizzard we had the day after Christmas, the city literally shutdown since there weren’t enough plows or man force to clear the streets.

You’ll be ready for the spring bulbs to arrive! Spring is around the corner – must be!!

I’m so ready for spring! Two more months and I’m there! :)

Wow, I haven’t seen snow or experienced very cold weather in many years. It definitely does look beautiful, but growing up in tropical climates…I get cold fast!

    Take care in that snowmageddon!

    • Norbert February 1, 2011 at 10:06 am #

You got it right. It get’s cold easily when you are used to living in a tropical environment! :)

I love snow. I’m in South America and missing the whitest winter in ages. I know I’d be sick of it if I was there but I can’t help but we sad I can’t see it and touch it!

    • Norbert February 9, 2011 at 11:04 pm #

OMG! This winter has been so snow filled! It’s almost incomprehensible how much snow has fallen day after day… I can send you some if you like. There’s a lot to spare. :)
