In today’s construction business it is common to see scale models of modern building. These help visualize the project before it is built and also aid the architect and workers during the design and construction process.
According to archaeologists, Machu Picchu has one of the oldest, if not the oldest, building scale model in the world. The carved stones seen in the foreground are the scale model of the entire Machu Picchu complex, including Wayna Picchu Mountain – the tall mountain in the background. See the relationship?
It is said that the Inca architect, or one of the designers of Machu Picchu, carved this stone in the center of the complex to facilitate the overall vision of the project and to guide workers while it still was in construction. Not too far from what we architects do today, right?
