Must See Cities When Traveling in Europe

Berlin

European City

Revamped since the fall of the Berlin Wall, the vibrant German capital is home to famous squares, historic monuments, magnificent castles and an upbeat nightlife. The square at Unter den Linden is gracefully lined with linden trees that lead to the Brandenburg Gate. Inspired by the Acropolis of Athens, this towering gate stands at the centre of Berlin. Decorated with gilt lions, this palatial castle features beautiful gardens, lakeside walks and a fine collection of art and pottery.

Rome

European City

The eternal city of Rome is a great place to revel in endless artworks and antiquities or just to enjoy a tasty gelato. The epic Colosseum, Forum, Pantheon and Domus Aurea are just a few of ancient ruins to be explored. A walk through the Forum leads to the Temples of Roma and Venus, two goddesses who protected the city. Bas reliefs depict Roman soldiers with their plundered prizes as they led away Parthian prisoners. The ancient ruins of Rome are a haven for history buffs. Art lovers will enjoy the Capitoline Museums. In twin palaces at the Piazza del Campidoglio, these museums feature the masterpieces of Titian, Veronese, Caravaggio and Tintoretto. Two other impressive galleries in Rome are the Borghese Gallery the Palazzo Barberini Galleria.

Budapest

European City

Budapest is a picturesque city steeping with historical treasures. Castle Hill, Matthias Church, Fishermen’s Bastion and the Royal Palace are just of few of the city’s attractions that are recognized as World Heritage Sites. Built in the 13th century, the Gothic Royal Palace can be seen from any position in the city. The Royal Palace houses the Budapest History Museum, the Hungarian National Gallery and the National Library.

Unique to Budapest, public thermal baths surround the palaces throughout the city. It is not uncommon to see the locals immersed in these medicinal waters and playing chess. There’s no other city in Europe that features such an enduring spectacle.

A trip to any one of these European cities is sure to sate the desires of any discerning traveller. With so much to see and do in each city, every moment is filled with endless adventure and memories that will last a lifetime.

    I’m kinda surprised Madrid got the mention over Barcelona. But I <3 Madrid (lived there for 3 months).
    I'd also recommend Prague.
    Athens on the other hand… well… it's a good stepping-off point for the Greek Islands.

      Oh, Barcelona is a must visit city too! Believe me, I love it too. Prague I also loved. I mean, Europe has so many great cities that it is hard to pick the “must do” places. :)
