Do you have huge dreams for yourself? Do you want to travel the world, experience something new, or become the best version of YOU?

I’m here to tell you: Know that you can do it!

I have compiled this guide, based on my own experiences and success stories, to inspire you to dream big and work towards your ideal life.

Before starting this blog, I had some incredible (possibly unrealistic) travel goals. In order to achieve them, I had to apply positive thinking and the mentality of “I’m free to follow my dreams!”.

Believing In Myself And My Dreams

So, let’s rewind to several years ago; when the thoughts of traveling the world were starting to brew in my mind. I was in high school in Puerto Rico and had no money, but I had this passion to see more of the world and learn more about it.

Since I couldn’t afford to travel at that time, I would spend countless hours planning imaginary trips on my computer and daydreaming of how that experience would be.

Fast-forward to 2010, when I’m a professional in NYC. The dream was still there, and after years of working and saving, I felt like it was time to turn those imaginary plans into a real experience.

Once I started spreading the word about my plans to do a round-the-world trip, I started to get some feedback regarding this “unconventional” travel style and its destinations.

Suffice it to say that not everyone was thrilled – but I didn’t let that get me down!

(Update: I’ve already spent over 3,600 days traveling around the world! Best thing I’ve done…)

Sharing my dream with others

I’m yet to meet a person who doesn’t have some kind of dream. These dreams or goals can be funny, exciting, unconventional… it doesn’t matter – all dreams are equally valid.

It was tough explaining my dream to travel the world with my loved ones. Although some were positive and supportive, a couple of naysayers had me questioning myself and wobbled my ability to stay motivated.

The plan was for me to quit my job and travel around the globe for a year. I had no solid plans and no job waiting for me on the other side.

Some people told me I was ruining my life, or that I’d never have a successful career.

And perhaps there was some truth in that (there wasn’t), but I had this niggling feeling deep in my bones that I needed to pursue this dream. And what better way of finding out if the naysayers were right than trying to travel and figuring it out as I go?

Don’t Let Someone Else Kill Your Dream

You will always find the gatekeepers who go out of their way to ruin or prevent someone else’s dream from becoming a reality.

And listen, it is good to get an outside perspective on your dreams and whether you’re being realistic or not – constructive criticism is a good thing – but don’t let someone’s negativity hold you back.

Yes, I’ve experienced this before… more times than I can count.

My first trip was a solo backpacking adventure to Thailand in 2008. I got so much negative feedback about the fact that I was traveling alone to a “dangerous” country and that I was “wasting” the little money I had by going there.

But, fortunately, I was (and still am) too stubborn to let anyone stop me. When I set my mind to doing something… I’ll do it!

All you have to do is stay focused and remind yourself why you are doing what you’re doing – what does it mean to you, and what will you be getting out of it?

Starting To Follow My Own Dreams

I did go to Thailand, despite what the gatekeepers were saying.

And I am so grateful I did! I experienced one of the most crucial turning points in my life that made me realize world travel is something I’m genuinely passionate about.

When you decide to follow your dreams, don’t expect things to just fall into your lap.

It took me a couple of years and lots of sacrifices. I had to change my lifestyle, pause social obligations, spend less… all in an effort to save more money to make my dream a reality.

But, the patience and perseverance paid off, eventually!

Doing a world trip had been niggling me for more than a decade, so when 2011 rolled around, I had plenty of confidence that it was finally the time to do it. No matter what, I had a clear vision, and I wasn’t going to let anyone stop me.

And do you know what I achieved? I’ve traveled to 139 countries, flying over 912,000 miles and totaling 2,182 hours spent in the air.

I know that sounds crazy, but it was my dream, and still is, and it has been a truly life-changing experience.

I can’t wait to keep working towards my short and long-term goals and retain my focus. For now, I am happy to make my way to foreign countries. The bigger dream? To visit every single country in the world!

Learning from me

I wrote about my experiences in the following blogs:

These may not be the exact feelings, fears, and steps you may need to take to achieve your dreams, but my process could serve as inspiration to set your own course.

You can take what you think resonates and works for you, and turn it into your own process to build a plan to reach that dream of yours.

How To Follow Your Dreams

Knowing how to follow your dreams may sound like wishful thinking or something you’d say to a kid, but anything is possible!

Here are some of my top tips to chase your dreams, which I applied in my own life:

  1. Write down your dream or goal: It may seem simple, but writing down what you want to achieve allows the dream to escape your head and become locked in reality. You can’t ignore something if you have to read it every day!
  2. Create a vision board: This can be an online Pinterest board of where you want to travel, words cut from a magazine to inspire you, or even just words that motivate you.
  3. Remain positive: Your mental health is important. If you slip into a negative headspace, you’ll be less likely to want to achieve your goals. By staying positive, you will stop thinking about everything that will go wrong, and instead figure out how to move in the right direction.
  4. Break your goal into doable actions: Saying “I want to visit every country in the world” sounds nice, but how will you do it? By breaking down your dream into actionable steps and short term goals, you will remain motivated.
  5. Stay humble and learn from mistakes: If you tackle a task with too much confidence, you might mess up, and then kick yourself for your flaws. Instead, stay humble and learn from your failures. If you tried to save money but had to suddenly pay to fix your broken car, that’s okay! That just means in the future you’ll know to set money aside for emergencies, too.
  6. Ignore the naysayers: I mentioned it above, and I will say it again: Don’t let other people’s opinions get you down!

20 Reasons Why Everyone Should Follow Their Dreams

It can be tough when most people tell you you’re insane, or that you’re never going to do The Thing you set out to do.

So, to keep you focused, here are 20 reasons to ignore all the negative naysayers and work towards your ultimate dream:

  1. The only “yes” you need to follow your dreams is your own.
  2. If you don’t, you’ll 100% regret it later in life. If you delay now, and finally do it, you’ll ask yourself why you didn’t do it sooner.
  3. You will feel unaccomplished if you don’t follow your dreams. This awful, heavy feeling will eventually stop you from dreaming altogether – and what a sad life that will be.
  4. You will feel incredible as you prove gatekeepers and naysayers wrong! As Walter Bagehot said; “The great pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.”
  5. People who follow their dreams are doers. Doers have more power to create, influence, and change their environment… and eventually the world.
  6. Your life will become much more memorable! Yes, there might be unexpected turns, but those speedbumps are exciting and make amazing memories.
  7. Any challenges you face on your path will help you grow and force you to step out of your comfort zone (which is a good thing!).
  8. Following your dreams will force you to take chances, and taking chances brings more opportunities.
  9. Are you afraid? Good! Fear makes you feel more alive. Power right through that fear, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Elbert Hubbard once said, “The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually fearing you will make one.”
  10. Your dreams and the actions you take define you. Don’t let anyone else define you!
  11. You will inspire others you meet along your journey to follow their dreams.
  12. You will become a much more interesting person.
  13. Challenging the status quo is really empowering.
  14. You are no longer limiting yourself to what everybody else is doing.
  15. Accomplishing your dreams will spark even bigger dreams. (Following this dream made me realize an even greater one: I became location-independent!)
  16. You have a purpose to live for (a great booster for your mental health).
  17. Even if your dreams fail, you’ll feel proud you gave it your all to accomplish them. Dreamers fail now and then, but they also learn more in life. You learn from failure. So, dust yourself off and try it again.
  18. It leads to personal fulfillment and satisfaction. You will feel much more content – something money can’t buy.
  19. Pursuing your dreams will result in a legacy of courage. You’re setting an example to others, showing them it is possible to break free from social expectations.
  20. It’s your life, live it under your terms!

Tips For Those With Travel Dreams

Do you have your own travel dreams you want to pursue? The most challenging part may just be where to start. So here are a few steps you can follow to help you achieve your goals and make amazing friends all over the world.

  1. Set a travel goal: The first step is to identify your travel goals, whether it’s to visit a specific destination, explore a new culture, dive deep into a few countries, climb the seven summits, or see every country. It’s your travel goal, so anything is valid.
  2. Develop your vision: Outline the steps you need to take to make your travel dreams a reality. This can include researching destinations, finding accommodations, and booking flights. For those looking to live more like a local in a foreign country, maybe even learning the language can help you get closer to achieving your dream. This is just an example, but a clear vision will help you stay focused on the real tasks at hand and your goals.
  3. Stay inspired: Follow travel blogs, social media accounts, and travel magazines for inspiration and motivation. And even once you’re traveling, stay inspired by the people you meet on the road, their stories, and their unique experiences.
  4. Learn about different cultures: Immerse yourself in different cultures by reading books, watching documentaries, and trying new foods. The world offers an immeasurable amount of cultural experiences, so you’re free to dive deep in the way that pleases you the most. For example, I love to learn about cultures through their history and architecture.
  5. Embrace new experiences: Be open to new life experiences, take risks, and stop thinking you can’t do it!

Your Future Belongs To You

I want to add a resource I read before starting my trip. It genuinely inspired me to push forward and still does to this day. It’s a book by Chris Guillebeau called The Art of Non-Conformity. It elaborates on the same 20 reasons listed above and much more!

  1. This is such a kick ass post, love it! Having the support of my loved ones means the world to me, but I don’t always get it with my traveling. At the end of the day you simply have to follow YOUR heart. Best wishes with your RTW trip!!!

    1. Thank you so much Andi! Support of my loved ones also means the world to me, and like in you case, they don’t necessarily understand where this “travel dream” comes from, so sometimes it’s hard for them to show their full support. I’ve gotten a few weird and “worry” looks, but in the end, I’m the one who needs to follow the things I’m passionate about. Thanks for your best wishes!! 🙂

      1. Hi sir,

This is Sudip from India I like your post it’s quite inspirational & motivational too. What I want to know is how to find out our passion & be absolutely sure about it, cause I have been trying to figure it out that I what exactly do I want from my life. I like travelling different places. This year m planing to go to Laddakh by bike which is highest motorbike terrain in the world. Need your suggestion about how to follow your dream and ignore all disturbing voices including nagetive inner voices.

        1. If you don’t have a dream. .
Just try doing all the things that makes you feel happy and alive and ask from creator with open heart was is your passion. Caution: do everything thing with hearth that the key……….God bless u

          1. Someone please help me, i want to become a rapper but my parents deny me and say be more like your brother who is really smart, but i dont want to be like him i want to be myself, and if i tell them i want to be a rapper they say that is for no lives and they get really mad at me, this has been happening for over 2 years, i need help, someone plz give me advice.

          2. Bro, try to work hard toward your goal, don’t give up and if your parent still are mad at you, just do some double work… work hard in school and do your work and by side practice your rapping skills, wherever u got a opportunity go, in school, in a television show accepting newcomers, don’t give up ….. bro i believe you , and think about that if you don’t achieve what you want to be, how tomorrow will you repent. bless u , may u achieve everything you need

          3. Thank you so much brother, may god bless you as well may you achieve everything you need as well, i try my hardest in school but i still get c’s and they expect me to get b’s and a’s

          4. I usually get b last year, this year i changed my company with nice people, but still kept my all friend, I enjoy life and my marks now are all a and you bro keep working… U will become a rapper, find a friend who help you to persuade your dream.. Have fun bro, you just got one life…. Enjoy otherwise u gonna miss your past….

          5. thank you so much man i will remember u man, but like i always study for my exams, for atleast 5 hours and the result is always a C or a D, i am having stress and my report is coming in a few weeks and i know i go bad marks can you give me some tips on how to get better grades

          6. I have so many dreams but never achieved one because of fear and wrong advice

        2. This is fabulous! But I’m underage and my dream is to travel to world alone. And no one supports me obviously. I love my parents but my life sucks and feels boring here. I want to live my dreams and make the most of it! Am I doing wrong ?

          1. There’s nothing wrong about traveling the world solo. This is something I wanted to do since I was 16. It was a dream of mine too, but I didn’t start my trip until I was 29. Dreams are important for one’s life, but it is also important to know how to pursue them if we want to realize them. Maybe you’re not financially stable at the moment to travel solo, so your first step is to find a way to be financially stable to fund your trip. Know that your dream is your goal, but to reach that goal you must go through many other phases that you must solve – almost like a jigsaw puzzle. Once you have all the pieces in place, that’s when you can start your journey.

Hope this helps! And, you are still young, so you have time to plan and work hard to realize this dream of traveling the world solo.

          2. Hey, ik I’m late, but did you do something?Did you take action? Did you follow your dreams?

        3. 7) Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. – Mark Twain

          1. I also want to be a full time solo traveller।।🤠😎।।
            Don’t be a tourist be a traveller ❣️
But the same problem is that i have not enough money for that।।।।plz guide

  2. > Accomplishing your dreams will spark even bigger dreams.

Yep. As our girl Oprah says, “The universe can dream bigger dreams for you than you can dream for yourself.”

In our experience, this is true. Dreams deliver compounded returns. While we always had big dreams for our lives, we never imagined we could be so happy and fulfilled. What is really crazy is that it seems to just be getting better and better, faster and faster.

    1. Sigh… Welcome to the post-Oprah world… who will say such great things today?! I couldn’t agree more with that quote.

I’m so glad you guys have been living a good and positive life by following your dreams. I’ve read a lot about what you do and you do have a very positive path ahead of you since you are active in making sure you accomplish those goals and realize those dreams! You guys are very inspirational! 🙂 Keep it up!

  3. Very inspirational post, Norbert! I’m very envious of your RTW trip! I can’t wait to take one of my own 🙂

    1. Thanks Michael!! 🙂 Keep thinking positive about doing your RTW. The things you focus your positive energy on will develop one way or another, so eventually you’ll see how things fall into place and you’ll be planning your own RTW. 😉 I look forward to see you do yours!!

  4. Great post! I agree completely with you, for me I know so many people that went straight to University doing courses that the only half wanted to do for what ever reason when they would have much rather been doing something else. Its such a shame!

Have a great time on your RTW!

    1. Thanks Jozef! I know, so many people do that. While I don’t discourage going to university, I always emphasize to do it if you really want to pursue what you’re studying. If not, the I’ll say the same, find your happiness and future with alternatives that can have more potential.

  5. Kudos to you for following your dream. I really think any negativity comes from people who are too scared to follow their own dreams and admire your courage for doing so. My dream was to go diving with hundreds of hammerhead sharks and I’ve done it both in Costa Rica and the Galapagos and loved it, although I did get a lot of feedback over it.

    1. Thanks Laurel! Yes, fear is powerful in bringing negativity and preventing people on taking the risks of doing the things they really want. I’ve had so many conversations with people that ask me if I fear not finding a job when I finish my trip, if something could happen along the way, etc… well, if I weigh those fears heavily, I would never be able to do a RTW or many other things I would love to do. Part of life is about taking risks, and risks bring new opportunities.

I love you went swimming with hammerhead sharks!! That’s awesome! I would love to do that too! (I can imagine people’s faces and comments when you said that was one of your dreams… lol) 🙂

  6. In the end Norbert, you end up not so much following your dreams, but actually following your plans. Sure the dream was the inspiration, but really a guy like you then plans it all out. So it is as you say, travellers are doers! And while you may write that you’re following your dreams, it may drum up a misconception in naysayers brains…that you’re off on some dreamy excusion with no plan etc. But you have actually got your feet very firmly on the ground and know where and how you’re going.

BTW the naysayers are just jealous!

    1. Jim, as always, I love how you bring your wisdom to the conversation. You have a great point. I’m not following some fluffy dreams, I’m following something that has been developing in the back of my mind for the past 10 years or so. I’ve been planning it to make sure, or at least give a good chance, that this plan/dream will come true and flow the best way possible.

I agree, many naysayers are jealous! 😉

      Thanks for your input Jim!

  7. Leave it to Norbert to come up with such a great list.

You got it right, “ignore everybody and follow your dreams” is probably one of the best advice someone can give another. Without dreams, its possible to forget how alive we are and we end up just existing, instead of really living. Dreams challenges and motivates our lives and gives us something to live for; it is a conscious reaction to our future.

I’m happy to see that you are living your dream and living your life on your terms.

    1. Thank you so much for your words Sherry! I love how you put it. We should not just exist, we should live by following our dreams and doing the things we love! The challenge and motivation they bring is one of the greatest pleasures of feeling alive and happy with life.

I’m glad you’re also following your dreams and pursuing the things you love! 🙂

  8. Great tips on following your dreams. I am actually going to use some of these to try and figure out what my long term dreams are! 🙂

    1. Thanks Jeremy! Definitely, use them to figure out what you really want in life; short term and long term. You’ll see things will start to develop in your mind… that sneaky thought that comes to your mind every now and then, and makes you happy when it does pop in… that might be part of your dream. 🙂

  9. Great post. I agree, it doesn’t matter what other people think, if you know it’s right then you should do it. I’m going to get my wife to read this post, she cares too much about what other people think, and for that she often puts her dreams away and does what other people want her to do.

    1. Thanks Dean! Ah, I know that feeling as I used to be a “pleaser”. I always wanted to please everybody and in the end I was the one sacrificing myself to have everyone else feel comfortable/happy/whatever. I noticed that by doing that, the one that was not happy was me… so, I had to stop it!

Now I think more about making myself happy, because if I don’t do it, who will do it for me. Of course, the happier I am, the better I can help people too.

    1. I agree… we can all be dreamers, but if we’re not doers, dreams will just stay as that, just dreams…

  10. #1 and #3 really spoke with me- I put off my dreams or my intentions for a while because of naysayers and that period of life is over. I wasn’t happy and I was in a constant state of depression. You have to live your life for yourself. Love this post!

    1. Believe me Jade, I used to do the same thing a while ago… not anymore. Anything that is my dream to accomplish, I work to get it. Let’s live our life for ourselves! 🙂

  11. Great post! I really needed to read this, as I’m getting ready for my own RTW in a little over 2 months (eek!). I don’t really have outside naysayers, just sometimes inside ones.

    1. Thanks!! Wow, congrats on going to your RTW in two months!! Naysayers come in all forms… You just have to be sure that’s what you want to do; and if you are, then no matter what other people say, just keep looking forward to accomplish what you want in life. 🙂

  12. Yes, kick-ass is a good word for this post. Sounds like somebody riled you. If so, this was a great reaction!

    1. lol… kind of. Sometimes people don’t understand where you come from and the intentions behind the things you want to do. This is my reaction to it. 🙂 Thanks Robin!

  13. amen (in the most non-religious way) norbert! i’m thinking about these things alot these days with just having taken off. this list will no doubt come in handy if/when any self-doubt kicks in. i agree with andi- ass-kicker of a post! 🙂

    1. Amen Lorna! Thanks! 😉 I’m so glad you’re living your dream right now! I would love to be doing right now what you’re doing, but soon I’ll start mine! There are times when self doubt can kick in, but those are the times when it’s best to surround yourself with positive people or do positive things to take out those lousy thoughts. 🙂

    1. Thanks Tobias! I agree, we need to life first for ourselves. It’s our life, so we have to make the best of it!

  14. Great post Norbert! If you let others define your existence for you, you will live a bloody mediocre life. They will always set the bar lower for you than if you set it yourself.
As I always say no one else knows my dreams, what I am capable of, or what I believe- only I do, so stay out of my way while I go and be true to me.

    1. Thanks Caz! I couldn’t agree more with you. Living a life defined by others is just a recipe for mediocrity and unhappiness. No one fully knows our dreams, so it will be hard for them to understand them, but that doesn’t mean our dreams are wrong or some crazy idea that should not be pursued. As long as we are sure about it and that we really want it… all we have to do is move forward, full force!

  15. I am currently following my long-term travel dream in Latin America. Your list of reasons is excellent, and I’ve already experienced many of these. #12 has been the most rewarding for me so far.

    1. Thanks Stephanie! I agree, #12 feels so rewarding because you love to see how other people are inspired to do what they want too. It’s a good feeling that even inspires you more. 🙂

  16. you’ve covered pretty much everything here man… nothing much to add… great motivational post for those who are thinking of doing the same thing…

  17. Love this amazeballs kick in the pants post. You rock , Norbert. All the very best for the RTW adventure!

  18. I think #17 is my favorite. If you don’t follow your dreams, what DO you have to live for? Settling for something less than stellar? How many people who slave away at the corporate life do you talk to who are actually happy with what they’re doing? Great list!

    1. Thanks Aaron! I think the number of people really happy in the corporate life is slim… and it doesn’t show signs of improving. We need something that inspires us to live for, and realizing our dreams is a good way to achieve this.

  19. Number 5 is so true. I do have to say that some of the naysayers just never had the opportunity to experience what you have had in terms of traveling. I am very happy that you are pursuing your dreams. I do have the same goal as yours but never really committed to it because of fear and a lot of excuses. So seeing people like you go for it makes me very inspired =)

    1. Grace, fear is there… it will always be there but having it it’s not bad. It makes things feel like a challenge and even makes things more interesting. Honestly, I have certain fears on things that could go wrong on my RTW, but I won’t stop because of that. Go ahead Grace, don’t let fear, excuses, or naysayers stop you from accomplishing your goals! 🙂

  20. Word. Its post like these that remind me that I am doing the right thing. Good luck with all your planning!

    1. This is like the mental boost you like to have every once in a while that helps you know how well in track are you. I’m so glad you’re doing your thing Mica! Keep living it! 🙂 Thanks!

  21. This goes well with my latest post. Such a inspiring one Norbert!
Sometimes it takes a long time to realize ‘this is my life’. Cause of all the influences, especially negative one. Just one small step but it’s really hard to take.
Funny, today is my last day at this cubic farm. I’ll be out of here, since tomorrow.
    No more unnecessary pressure! 🙂

This is my latest post about me quitting… 🙂 http://runawayjuno.com/2011/06/21/its-time-to-spill-the-bucket/

    1. Thank you so much Juno! I’m so happy for you that today was the day you spilled the bucket! I read your post, and literally it is like something I could have written since it is exactly the same situation.

It is our life, and we are the ones that have to be in charge of it. Now, enjoy the world, Juno! 🙂

  22. Excellent post. YOU’ve got to follow your dreams, because noone else will do it for you! Have a fantastic RTW. Let me know if it brings you to Iceland 🙂

    1. Thanks Hjortur. I’m really looking forward for a great RTW. You know, Iceland is on my map, so there’s a big chance I might be able to go there! 🙂

    1. Thanks Jasmine! Well, I believe there’s always a way to have your dream be able to put food on your table. It’s just a matter of finding the way, and making it work! 😉

  23. Great and timely article! I’m currently a trip to Korea…my dream. Not looking forward to telling my family. I know they’re not going to be happy.

      1. Hey Rachel! Wow, I wen’t to South Korea and loved it!! I’m sure you will too! Are you planning on telling them before you leave?

In my case I told my family about my RTW little by little… I started by dropping the idea in random conversations and then after a while when thy got used to hear about the “idea”, I dropped the “bomb” about it actually happening because I had bought already the airfare. 🙂 It was my way of taking them slowly and preparing them to the news.

        1. Hi Norbert! Yes, I will tell them once my trip is booked. I’ve hinted at it for some time…even if they think I’m crazy, especially my father. However, I’m old enough, and this is something I feel I have to do. He saw my Moon Handbook about living in Korea (would like to do that someday…I applied for a Fulbright Scholarship to teach in Korea, but didn’t get it) and said “Don’t even think about it”.

All the best to you on your RTW trip. I’m sure it’s going to be amazing!

          1. It’s easy for them to think we are crazy and that we are floating in bubble dreams because they don’t necessarily understand what we really want and what are our goals in life. But, that shouldn’t discourage you. Instead, try to slowly educate them in some way, or make them feel more comfortable with the idea, so that they can understand your dreams better. I do encourage you to go to Korea and to live there for some time too (I have friends that have gone there to teach, and they say the experience is unbelievable).

I wish you all the best in your plans to go to Korea and anywhere else in the world! 😀

Thanks for the well wishes on the RTW! I’m really excited about it!! 😉

  24. this is a wonderful post! thank you so much for sharing! it’s really a fabulous feeling knowing that there are people out there that view life the same way you do. i’m 32 and have always taken the path less traveled, much to my family’s distaste. however, i keep on following MY path and know that it has been and will be a beautiful journey. thanks again for sharing! best of luck on your travels and your journey 🙂

    1. Hi Jenni! Good to see you around! It’s good that you are following your path because what you do is what defines you, even the things many people might not agree on. In the end, it is your life, your decisions, so I encourage you to keep following your dreams and to keep living your life as you want it to be! Cheers on that! 🙂

  25. I’m following my dream to Atlanta. Moving there from CT in a few months. Never lived anywhere outside of CT. It’s exciting and scary!

    1. Hey Crystal! Good to see you around! So cool you’re following your dream to live in Atlanta. I kinda know how it feels as I had that same “scary yet exciting” feeling when I moved to New York. Best of luck to you!!

    1. I know… there is a degree of selfishness, but hey, if you don’t look after yourself, no one will! 😉

  26. I also believe in following dreams. My husband & I decided to travel across the USA & volunteer our time to causes/charities/organizations we believe in. Our journey began 2 weeks ago. It hasn’t been easy & we’re not sure if we’ll make it across the US. We still have to work & earn money while on the road in order to continue & it’s proving to be much more difficult to make the money we need to continue. So far we have volunteered at a domestic violence organization, Habitat for Humanity & served up some hot meals to some hungry people that have fallen on hard times. All were great experiences & we hope we can continue on with our dream. The goal is to volunteer in every State and, when possible, in each town we stay in. We are also blogging about our experience. Good luck with following your dreams!

    1. Hey Diana! Wow! What a journey you have ahead. It’s great that you’re volunteering your time with those organizations and helping people in need. I’ve had great interest in volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, so I hope to so it some time in the future.

Like you said, the road might be hard some times and keeping an income might seem like a hard task, but keep that positive attitude that made you head out in the first place and you will see there will be options along the way that will keep you traveling/volunteering for a long term.

I checked your blog and love what you’re doing… I’ll make sure to check back.

Thanks for the luck, good luck to you too!! 🙂

      1. Thanks for the positive words. Our volunteer time with Habitat for Humanity was awesome. Met some great people and put in some good hard work…it felt great. I’m sure you’ll feel the same way when you work with them too.

        1. You’re welcome Diana. I’m sure it will feel great if I have the chance to work with them. I’m planning on volunteering during my RTW, so whether with HFH or any other organization, I’ll feel like I’m doing something positive.

  27. I agree completely with you. I had the same epiphany about a year ago and decided to follow a dream that I have had for a long time, so I quit my job and opened up a new outdoors store. A lot of people where telling me not to do this, don’t give up a secure job, the economy is too bad etc, but I just brushed those people off and surrounded myself with people that believed in me and my dream. Is it easy, no, but I am so much happier now working for myself that I ever was working for someone else. And you know, I helped spur a friend of mine who is now following his dream and is opening his own business. Chase your dreams no matter where they take you.

    1. Hey Jerred! Congrats on owning your own business!
You know, a lot of people think that working for others means having a “secure” job. Well, while this might seem like the norm, it isn’t necessarily the most secure because you’re not the one in control of your future. There’s always someone “above” that can easily help you succeed or kick you out in an instant. While having a business is by far no easy task, as you know, you are the one in control and you decide how to shape the future of it.

Kudos on helping your friend follow his dreams too! 🙂

I wish you both the best of luck!

  28. This was an excellent article to read. I am an ambitious 19 year old college student, who just returned home from a month long bicycle tour cross-country from Chicago to Austin. I had little experience before leaving and my friends all thought I was crazy for even thinking about trying to accomplish such a huge feat. Even though there were points where I mentally and physically broke down, I can easily say that it was the best experience of my life so far. The kind people I have met on my way and the things I have seen…No gaudy 5 star hotel on some “pristine” cannot ever compare. Life is too short and difficult to make excuses. Do what makes you smile. Do what makes you feel alive. Do what makes you feel.

    David Lam

    1. Hey David! Great to see you around! So cool you did that bicycle tour from Chicago to Austin. I bet it must have been challenging, like you said, but very rewarding at the same time! I like that you said “life is too short and difficult to make excuses”, I totally agree. Keep that positive thinking and keep challenging yourself by doing the things you love. 🙂

  29. More like 19 cliches about why you should follow your dreams. But at least you’ve compiled them all in once convenient location.

    1. Well, I rather live happy following my dreams through these 19 cliches (and more) than unhappy worrying about cliches. 😉

    2. Erin, how much effort did it take you to type that out? You could have used that energy in a much more positive way.

      How’s this for cliche…

“The spirit in me respects the spirit in you”

      Pass it on.

      1. Thanks Digable Cat! I like your quote: “The spirit in me respects the spirit in you”. I wish more people were able to understand it and apply it in their life. Thanks for sharing it! I’ll make sure to spread it too. 🙂

  30. This is great! It makes us think of our friends at The Most Epic trip, who are driving around the country, climbing, and being happy in the name of reminding people that it’s important to follow your dreams! So cool, guys!

    1. Hey Charlie! That sounds like a trip I would love to be in!! Do you know if they have a blog people can follow? Would love to see their journey.

      1. Hey brother. No one ever inspired me the way you did today. I was one of those people who always look for acknowledgement or encouragement from others. specially from family. I have put on hold to finish my degree of becoming RN in order to take care of my parents. I have 6 brothers and sisters who should be doing this with me. See, I fulfill their responsibilities so, everyone of them is thinking that I’m there with the elderly and they have nothing to worry about. Now, I put my notice to work only weekends; starting September of 2011 the month I decided to start to make my dream to come true.
Thank you Norbert for the unbelievable article.

        1. Hi Habon! Good to see you around! I’m glad this post inspired you and gave you encouragement to follow your dreams. There are always responsibilities, like the one you currently have with your parents, but never forget about you, your purpose, and your own desires. It’s good that you took the first step towards living your dream by putting your notice. Like they say, the hardest step is the first one. You’ll see the next steps will happen easier and smoother.

Good luck to everything in life Habon, and hope to see you around! Keep living your dreams! 😉

  31. This was a totally great post and really re-inspired me. I’ve recently gotten caught in a rut and wondered why I was feeling restless. Now I know why: I forgot where I was going and to follow my heart. Reminds me to stay where I am but only long enough to fulfill obligations and then it’s time to hit the road!

    1. Hey Ash! It happens to all of us that we “fall of the dream wagon” and feel a bit stagnant. Obligations are always there, and it’s good that we are responsible with them. But realizing we are in those stagnant moments makes us have a better perspective as to why is so important to follow our heart in what we really want to do. We need to make the best in our life to live a happy and fulfilled life! I wish you the best in life! 🙂

  32. Rock on! I had lots of naysayers when I decided to quit my job, pack up my stuff and drive across the country (alone), so I know exactly what you are talking about here. And I agree with every single one of your points, as I have experienced them real-time. Once again, I am following more dreams and, although I have no cash flow, I feel very rich and fulfilled … and I’m meeting a lot of very interesting people who respect what I’m doing. Those of us who continue to honor our dreams set an example for those who are struggling with launching their dreams. Best of luck on your new adventure!

    1. Thanks Kimberlee! It is common to have naysayers on our backs when we do unconventional things like these or make decisions out of the ordinary. I’m so glad you’ve experienced all the positive things of following your dreams in your life as it is very encouraging and gives hope to people that wants to do the same. Best of luck to you too! 🙂

  33. Love this!
I’ve been following my dreams for most of my life, never regretted it one bit. Am about to do same thing again — go home for a sabbatical. I’ve heard it all. In the end, none of those naysayers have to live with your feelings of regret or of how you let yourself down. I say go for it!
A RTW trip is in my future, I feel it. Travel is so infectious because there’s so much to learn and life is about learning. The memories you’ll have will be worth more than anything in the world.
Go forth and follow your dreams!!! It’s the ONLY thing no one can take from you.
    Marcia

    1. Marcia, I’m glad you’re following your dream and that you don’t regret it at all!

Ha, travel IS infectious… it’s crazy how addictive it can be to experience things through travel and to see life in a different way.
Thanks for the encouragement, Marcia, I am paving the path to live the dream I’ve ha for so long. Now it’s time to make it a reality.

Cheers to living our dreams! 🙂

  34. Hi Norbert. I’m really glad I found your website. This post is very encouraging. Many people in my life don’t ‘get’ traveling, so this really gave me a boost. I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon because travel is awesome. Thanks!

    1. Thanks Jodi! Glad to see you around. Like you said, many people don’t get traveling the way we do it, but their lack of understanding shouldn’t be a let down for us to pursue it. Continue doing your travels and the things you love!! Cheers! 😉

  35. I think I’m going to plaster #10 on my wall and read it every day. I’m struggling with deciding to put a monetary investment into an idea I have. For me, spending money on travel is easy and I have no problem spending thousands on it. I think the reason this new venture scares me is because I see it as possibly taking money away from my travel fund. Crazy huh?! Very inspirational post, Norbert.

    1. Christy, I love that quote about the fear of making mistakes. I know how hard it is to make those monetary decisions, as I’ve had my own hard decisions, but if we don’t try things we shouldn’t expect to accomplish them. If you’re really passionate about your investment, I would say go forward and be open to anything. You will learn of mistakes, gains, and losses, but by going through those you have a greater chance of succeeding! Good luck to you and wish you the best!!

  36. Norbert you hit the nail on the head with each of these — I can relate to all of them! Excellent post!

    1. Thanks Raymond! It’s great to have that inspirational boost every now and then to keep us going for what we love.

  37. Great post! I hope to start my own company one day…I’m not getting any younger and sometimes that feels daunting, especially because I haven’t started yet, but I’m still going to go for it. All the best with your RTW!! =)

    1. Thanks Andrea for the best wishes on the RTW! Starting a company must feel daunting, but do it slowly (task by task, day by day), so it doesn’t feel as daunting and you feel like some progress in happening. Eventually you will see how much you’ve accomplished without feeling too overwhelmed. 🙂

  38. It is true that if you don’t follow your dream. In a way, I followed mine excepting for one thing: I listened to too many people. Get a day job. Be safe. The result is that this post if from the best unknown artist likely to pass your way today. While I haven’t given up, I urge anyone willing to take the risk to listen to your heart first! I made a better living but never got recognition that might have happened if I had stayed “hungry” rather than safe.

    1. Hi Tess. Listening to others is not bad, but it should not be what dictates your decisions in life and the course of it. I like what you say about listening to your heart first. I agree with that because that is what makes us happy and fulfilled in the end, even if it’s not a safe decision.

    1. Thanks Abby! Yes, you have the power and control to make decision and take charge of your dreams and future. 😉

  39. So glad I found your blog. This post resonates with me big time. I have two huge dreams I’m currently working towards:

    1) Circumnavigate the globe without flying, starting from Ireland in October, gonna take my time, live in several different countries along the way, should be done by 2015.

    2) Become fluent in the world’s five most widely-spoken languages. My definition of fluency here is to be able to deliver a speech in each language in front of 100 native speakers and comfortably handle Q&A afterwards. Giving myself until the age of 40 to achieve this goal. I’m 29 now.

Regarding #2, I recently told some language exchange partners about it and they immediately began criticizing the idea. One was adamant that I should learn German above Mandarin, Hindi and Arabic. I told him he was free to learn German himself if he loved it so much. My dream is my dream, and I like it how it is.

Keep doing what you do, Norbert!

    1. Hi Niall! Thanks, I’m glad this post resonates with you. I love the fact that you want to do a round the world without flying! That takes a lot of courage. Who knows if we cross paths somewhere. 🙂
On learning new languages… dude, that’s amazing! And like you stated; it is your dream, you passion, your time, your dedication… you invest it in what you want… not them.

Good luck on both of your dreams and I look forward to hear more from you! Cheers!

  40. Man, you’re awesome. I’m really happy i found this post, it’s just what I was missing to finally make a decision and travel round this world.
Been to Thailand last year, and since then I’ve been dreaming of knowing this whole world so bad.
Thank you very much! Have a nice trip!
If you come to Argentina during your RWT, don’t hesitate in writing me.

    Namaste.

    1. Thanks Juan! I’m really glad you found this post useful and inspirational! So cool you’re also doing a RTW! I guess Thailand can leave an impression in many of us that makes us want to see more of the world.

Hope you have an awesome RTW too and hope to see you around to know more about it. 🙂

BTW, if I go to Argentina, I’ll let you know. 🙂

  41. This is an inspiring post & it’s this point that I feel is most relevant: 15. There are no rules in life so why limit yourself to what everybody else is doing?

I find most naysayers and those who compromise and don’t follow their dreams often fail to realize there is no defined path, no set rules or no cookie cutter mold to follow for a free spirited sort of person.

    1. Samuel, you are so right on the point. There is no predefined path in life, we are the ones who have to make it according to what we really want. By doing that we can accomplish our dreams and live life in the best way.

      Thanks!! 🙂

  42. You know, when I left on my whirlwind travel adventure my parents were PISSED. Forbade me to go then begged me to stay and finish school. But I went anyway. When I got back, my dad told me that me standing up and doing what I dreamed made him incredibly proud, but he only realized it after I had left.

Because I followed my first dream, I have made dozens of my other dreams come true. I live the life I want.

In a month, I will be watching my husband leave for a year to follow his dream. I will miss him but I know what dreams are like so I support him all the way. Again, his family was angry, hurt, frightened that he would go and do something so “reckless”, but I know that when he gets back, a little part of them will be proud and envious too. I was glad that my experience following my first dream has made things a little easier for him in following his first dream.

    1. I’m going to have to summon the courage to do that next year, Hanna. I had a group trip to South Korea booked. The trip was to be from Sept. 21-30. On Aug. 5, I told my parents and my mom went crazy on me, and my dad told me to cancel. I am disappointed in so many ways. I should have more of a financial cushion next year. There’s actually a concert in Seoul I want to go to in December. Seems crazy, but supposedly you only live once. There are a group of girls I can go with, meet up with once I get to Seoul. I just want t to go…not worry.

      1. Rachel, don’t get discouraged as things like these happen. But, if you truly want to go to South Korea (of follow any other dream of yours), you will need to be positive about it, dedicated, and give your all to make it happen. I know how you say it seems crazy to go to South Korea for a concert… to me it isn’t. The first time I traveled from Puerto Rico to New York was just for a concert too. I know it’s not as far as SK, but just the act of traveling for a concert is more than enough of a drive to take you there.

I think you have a plan ahead, as you mentioned your financial cushion for next year. So, keep things focused and you’ll see it’ll happen sooner or later. 😉

Best of luck on your dreams! And, hopefully you’ll go to South Korea in the near future. It is beautiful! 🙂

    2. Wow Hanna! You truly are an inspiration! Not only because you followed your dream, in spite people telling you not to, but also for encouraging your husband to do the same thing. I thing you have a good point when you say that thanks to following that one dream, you’ve been able to realize dozens of your other dreams. You never know what can open doors, and the courage you get from doing what you truly want is something that will pave the road for future challenges and dreams you want to take.

Thank you so much for sharing that with us! 🙂
Hope you and your husband keep living your dreams!

  43. THANKS for this post. It’s nice to see there are other people dreaming and not just bending in front of conformity. 🙂
I’ve often been told I have to grow up, I need to settle down, I live in a Disney world, etc etc etc… But at the end of the day, I am happy and proud of what I am doing.

    1. Thank you so much Simona! Like you said, you have to find a way to do things that make you happy, even if they don’t conform to what other people think is “ok”. As long as you’re sure and are conscious of the things you’re doing, keep on going! 🙂

  44. Great post and a great source of inspiration for those who should follow their dreams no matter what

  45. You are totaly right, dont let enyone stop you from enjoying this life …we only have one (probley)

If you are still going around the world next year ,and still have some cash in your pocket you can join my adventure,im going to drive a 4×4 truck from iceland to southafrica, taking 6 months and 20 countrys…i will be taking some passangers so if u want to join please check out my website
    vikingsacrossafrica.webs.com

    1. Wow!! That’s quite an adventure! When are you starting this? I actually started my RTW trip already, but who knows what happens in the future. 😉

  46. thank you so much for posting this! i really needed to see this…im 18 years old and my dream is of moving to mexico city (i am mexican) and going to university there and unfortunately, i let my father stop me from going….but not anymore. next year i plan on attending my dream school in the most incredible city in the world regardless if my father lets me or not. you are such an inspiration for me!

    1. Hi Dani –

I’m glad you got to read this as I believe it’s really important to keep those dreams alive and push forward to make them real. I encourage you to plan ahead to go to school in Mexico if that’s what you really want. Of course, it’s always better to have the consent and support from your parents, but you should always think about yourself and your future as an individual. Cheers for a bright future!! 😉

  47. Thank you for this post. I am currently building a TV show about cars in Canada. I am almost finished my business plan to send to ShawMedia. I have a page on Facebook called Piston Junkeez Creations.

I really hope I can make it, it’s my long time dream.

    Thank you!

  48. Hey it’s an amazing and ispiring post!!! I’ve always dreamed of becoming a pilot. Nobody really supports me. I’m a 16 year old girl and I’m quiet lost because my family and friends have confused me. They just keep telling how much money I will have to spend and it’s dangerous! Now I don’t know what should I do. Do I just keep going and follow my dream or do I listen to my parents and become a doctor?! I know probably I’m too young but I really don’t want to have a boring life. I want to be like you. Traveling just like pilots;) and not give a crap(excuse my French) what others say or think about me. Love this article. I’m very jealous of your world trip! I wish I could meet an inspirational person like you;)

    1. Hi Aziza!! Sorry for my late reply. It’s so great you have the dream to become a pilot, but somewhat a shame that no one supports you in that decision. Usually family and friends want you to do something because they think its better and they think it’s the best for you, but they often forget to think what are the real passions that drive you to make your own decisions. I don’t think you should become a doctor if it’s not your passion… after a few years you’re going to hate it and feel miserable. I believe you should follow your dreams and passion and do what YOU really want to do, and make your family understand why is it that you want to do it. In my opinion, being a pilot is not more dangerous than being a doctor, an architect, or a policeman… it’s all relative… and, do you think the cost for becoming a doctor is any cheaper than becoming a pilot? I don’t think so.

Like you said, you’re still young, but it’s good that you’re thinking about the future. Focus on what you want to do and give all you got to make it possible and real. I really wish you could make this happen and travel the world like you want to! And, let’s hope we can cross paths somewhere along the way!! 😉

    2. Hi, I have the same problem. I am 13 years old and I have had a passion for airplanes since I was a little kid. My parents think the same think. They said you will never are going to become a pilot. They said that because they think it is too dangerous. I have been using flight simulators since I was 8 years old. I want to start flight training next year with my cousin who is a pilot!!!

      1. Hi Fernando – It is normal for your parents to think it is dangerous to be a pilot, but if you really want them to understand that it is not, you should educate them and let them know why it is not dangerous and why you want to become one. Show them it is your passion! As parents, they will want to protect you from certain things, thinking that it is the best for you. But, sometimes, we do know whats best for us and we need to fight for it. Go forward with your dream of becoming a pilot. You’ll see that if your parents see that you are serious about becoming one, in time, they will understand it better. But, take them by the hand and show them the way, don’t force the idea on them, if not, they wont understand you. 😉

Best wishes to you my friend! 🙂

  49. You are such an inspiration! God bless you always 🙂

Just like you, I have a passion for travel…simply because I want to have a bigger experience of the world…outside of my comfort zone…My experiences made me more confident about the future, about life, and more importantly about myself.

I’m a very petite, skinny girl, so even my own family couldn’t believe I have made it to Himalayas. I work hard and I travel harder. And now I want to quit my job and just travel 🙂

I don’t understand what motivates me to do this, I know my family wouldn’t understand but hey this colorful life, this is mine ^__^

At the same time, I want to become an animator. And because of the job Im in, I dont have a time to pursue that.

But after reading your post, I told myself “why not?”

after all, life is not about finding myself, its about creating myself 🙂

thank you for the kick Norbert, keep on spreading happy, positive vibes

    Stay SUPER!

    1. Hi supergirl!
      Thank you so much! 🙂
I don’t think I fully understand what motivates me to travel too, but like you, I just do it because it’s my passion and it is one of the things that make me happy!

You know what, I believe you can be an animator and travel. For example… I’m an architect, and this profession is not location independent, but I’m doing whatever is possible to keep practicing my profession in one way or another while still traveling long term. This is something I truly believe in; if you really want to do something, you’ll find a way to do it and make it happen.

So, now I also tell you… why not?!

      You too stay super!!

  50. As you may know, living your own life and pursuing your passions regardless as to what well meaning friends and family may say is the cornerstone of the philosophy of my life. I used to be a people pleaser, actually living down to others’ expectations of me. At some point, we all have to grow up and learn to follow our own counsel. We should know that no one’s opinion matters more than our own because last I heard I’m not living Renee and (insert name here)’s life. I’m living mine, so that’s my baseline in everything that I do. It’s the ONLY way to live life authentically.

    1. Renee, I totally agree with you, especially when you say “I’m not living Renee and (insert name here)’s life”. We need to live our own life because if we live under the opinions of others and pleasing them we end up living the life they want us to live. And that’s not fair for us. We need to live OUR life! 🙂

  51. Hi, there!

I am so glad that I chanced upon this post. Just wanted to share that I have dreams and have relentlessly nurtured them. I have just been a little slow in acting upon them. Something me holds me back. Probably have been waiting for my instincts to guide me. Guess its “never too late”. And I have kept my eyes and ears open. Hopefully i will get there because i do realise that it is imperative that i act sooner or later and I indeed will!

    Thanks.

    1. Hi Rachna

It is very common to see the “me holds me back” situation. Whether it is by fear of the unknown, failure, or just leaving comfort, but hey, if we don’t take that step we’ll always have the “what if” in our mind that will bug us a great deal. Like you said, it’s never too late to take action on what you really want, so move forward!

      Cheers!! 🙂

      1. Exactly, too true, I have had major depression & PTSD & been told by an in law that I may NEVER come right, that really made me cross, I have come right, I was all the more determined too come right, & I got there, I didn’t let anyone hold me back @ all, as my mother said if I decide to do something I’m like a dog with a bone!
Other people have said don’t buy so & so for your room at your new house I think it’s my room NOT yours, I will do it cause you said NOT to so there

  52. thanks for helping me follow mine.. my dreams and heart…

i have a question .. do you think it is possible to forget how to follow your heart if you dont follow it?

    1. Hey Kg – You’re most welcome. Hmm, hard question… I’m not sure what to say there, but I think neglecting our heart/desires has a strong effect that will impact our future one way or another.

  53. I want to be a singer. but my family wants me to pursue spiritual things. i was born with an amazing talent of singing and music. i dont want to waste it! not everyone is born with this talent! i dont want to look back and think “What if?”

    1. Hi Lauren –
Well, life doesn’t have to be unidimensional. I’m not sure if you want to pursue spiritual things like your family does, but why does it have to prevent you from pursuing a singing career? Why can’t the two things work together?
I will be purely your decision to make and you should stand for what YOU really want to do. Like you said, don’t give yourself the chance to look back and say “What if?”. 😉

  54. Great advice! Every one of your 19 points resonate with me. It is never to late to start living your own life. I’m 40 and just woke up to the fact that I’ve only got one shot at this and there is no reason to wait any longer. I’ve always wanted to start my own business and travel extensively, and I’m working on that now. Granted it is not as easy while supporting a family, but I am determined to make it happen. I’m teaching my kids right now that they should follow their dreams. I have now learned that failure is nothing that should be feared. Live without regret!

Thanks again, and best of luck!

    1. Hi Kevin –

You’re right, it’s never too late to start working on what you really want to do in life. I’m glad you’re also encouraging your kids to follow their dreams. There should be no fear of trying something and failing, instead, I would fear more doing nothing and losing all the opportunities life might present. Whatever you want in life, give your all and do your best to get it!

      Cheers and best of luck!

  55. Of all the years I have recieved “advice” (unwanted most of the time from other people) and all the blogs and self-help posts and suggestions etc… this one honestly has made the most clear and perfect sense to me. It’s so simple yet so powerful and moving to me. I have been a struggling people pleaser all my life quietly suffering in the background. I am just now starting to come out of a long-term depression and putting myself first. It is such a liberating feeling that I never knew existed. I don’t have the support I wish I had, and i used to get really upset about it but now I don’t care. I am honestly blistfully ignorant to other peoples “opinions and suggestions”. It is my life and time for me to start living it as I choose to. I get overwhelmed and scared at times but I just pull through it because I know the best is yet to come. Thank you so much for your moving and inspirational words. These are the words I needed to travel abroad this summer. No more contemplating im signing up now!! (fluffy dreams or not!! ) 🙂 Close to happy and emotional tears!!! Yay!!

    1. Hi Allison!
I’m so glad this post was really helpful and I want to congratulate you for taking control of your life and deciding that you’re going to live it under your own terms! It’s common and easy to try to please other people, and that’s not necessarily bad, but we often forget about ourselves and when that happens we end up losing our uniqueness and special character. We should not let that happen as we need to be ourselves and we need to feel like accomplished individuals. And the way to do it is by taking care of ourselves and by pursuing our decides, goals, and dreams, among other things.

Cheers to fulfilling your dreams and I hope you get to travel abroad this summer and many other summers too!! 😀 Yayyy!!

  56. Pretty interesting and inspirational… I will recommend it to everyone who is skeptic to kick-start their travel…. the difference between a conformist and free-spirit is very well addressed….

    1. Thanks Rahul! We need to stop being conformist and push and work for what we really want in life. I’m glad you enjoyed the post!

    1. Hi Caliber M –
Well I’m no professional in the music industry so I can’t be of much help there, but if you truly want to become a producer, keep looking for ways to learn about it and become the best at it. Never give up along the way! Pursue your passion!

  57. great post! i’m following a few dreams concurrently (i want my whole life to be dream)- but a major one is i want to win the lottery jackpot. my sister and i are working on it together actually. our family thinks it’s impossible or worthless to attempt, but we’re focused. we’ve only one a couple dollars here and there, and we’re holding out for the big one!

it may seem like a pointless or farfetched endeavor, but so what, and besides, there will be something really enriching about winning aside from the money: spending the time, effort, and money doing something important to us; sticking with it even when there’s no reward. it’s actually fun to have a ticket and check the numbers- i anticipate the day when each number matches and we win! so it’s exciting as well. we’ve seen three years come and go without the jackpot win,but at any rate, just like my other dreams, until it’s accomplished, we’ll be working at it no matter what. we feel close- next week could be it!

good luck on your dream and safe travels!

    1. Hi Tacita –

While I do have a different opinion about the lottery, I like that you show a lot of passion and perseverance in winning it. My recommendation would be to also show the same perseverance and passion to other concurrent dreams you have so you can achieve the same goal through different methods. It’s like spreading your eggs in different baskets. In case one basket breaks, you wont lose all your eggs. Who knows, you could win the jackpot soon, or maybe you could feel as fulfilled or more through your other goals and dreams. 🙂

Good luck to you too, and never quit pursuing your dream, whether it’s the lottery or anything else!

  58. The no of comments tells it all. Majority of people end up doing things in life what others tell them to do. But it is that self realization which comes later in life when you know in your heart that this was not what i always wanted to do and now as the time has past i cannot do anything about it. As very well said by Steve jobs “life is very short don’t waste it living someone else life.” Its really great to see people like you who inspire others to break the barriers and do what they always wanted to do. And Best of luck Buddy for your adventure, i know it will be a thrilling and life changing experience for you.

    1. Hi Shek –

Thank you so much for quoting Steve Jobs! He is 100% correct. Life is too short to be living someone else’s life.
Thank you for your best wishes on my travels and adventures and I do wish you the best in life too! This trip is definitely a life changing experience.

  59. Very inspiring stuff! Love it. Reminds me of a great Jimi Hendrix lyric “I’m the one that has to die when it’s for me to die, so let me live my life the way I want to”

  60. hey would i be able to use somw of these for a speech i am doing? I was thinking about writing it on following your dreams and these would be very helpful! i thought i should ask your permission before i do so.

  61. This is beast! My dream scare me to death! I know I’ll more then likely fail but if I don’t I’ll regret it.

    1. Summer, don’t think negative or say that you’ll be more than likely to fail… that’s just you doubting on yourself and predetermining your failure. On the other hand, think positive and give it your all. Either way it ends, don’t regret that you followed your dreams! 😉

  62. Today when I was on my way to class I saw this flyer hanging up and it said auditions on it. They are holding auditions for a play at my college and I have always wanted to be an actor. I’m going to go whether I get cast in the play or not I have to try.

    1. LaRon, if acting is something you’re dreaming about, then act on it. Go to auditions and castings. Get yourself into the acting environment and expose yourself to it. You’ll see how much you’ll learn just by doing that. Good luck on your acting career and I wish you the best! Don’t give up on it! 🙂

  63. I so want to become a singer, but i know my parents wouldnt let r support that desicion. i have amazing natural talent that i dont want to leave on the shelf. i feel unaccomplished and scared that if i tell my parents, they would shoot me down. its all i want to do.

    1. Lauren, I know this happens to many people that have a dream that doesn’t go along what parents think it’s practical. What you need to do is educate them not only on what you really want to do, singing, but also show them that you are passionate about it and that you are willing to work hard to accomplish it. Take them slowly by the hand, that way they will slowly understand it better. Don’t give up and follow your dreams. I wish you the best!

  64. I too want to go around the world, (well at least to India if not everywhere) but following your dreams is not always that easy.Nevertheless,i got inspired. Its just that its hard to break free of certain ways of life.

    1. Hi Robert! You’re right, following your dreams is not always easy. That’s one of the reasons why we “dream” about them, because it is something we have to challenge ourselves to achieve them, and in return, we feel the satisfaction of accomplishing them. If they were all easy to achieve, then it will just be doing “what we want” without any challenge or major goal. Keep working to achieve your dreams, no matter how hard they might seem to be! 😉

  65. What a fantastic post. The first was spot on. The only person’s approval one needs is one’s own. Absolutely. Life is too short NOT to follow your dreams.

    1. I’m totally with you Alise, life is too short not to follow your dreams. Keep on following your dreams and making them a reality! 🙂

  66. Norbert,

    Kick ass post !!!

My dream was (and still is) playing guitar with my own band, since I was a teen. But you know …. life goes on, we – mere mortals – need to pay taxes, buy food, clothes… so I went to work with computing…. but still dreaming with playing guitar…
I work, get money, buy gears, buy book and now, at age 45 I’ll took guitar lessons with a renowned guitar player… and still looking for my band and my place on the stage….

That’s the ideia : keep going on !!!

    Thanks !!!

    1. Thanks, Paulo!
It’s never too late to follow your dreams. It’s true that life and responsibilities can get in the way some time, but as I always say, if you REALLY want to do something in life, you’ll give YOUR ALL to make it happen. Now, give your all to play that guitar as you’ve always wanted! 🙂

  67. As someone that has ignored the “Nay Sayers” for almost 20 years I highly recommend everyone doing the same. If I had gone with the Nay sayers I would not have experienced all the wonderful things that I have done in the last two decades.

    1. Elle, I’m so glad to hear that you’ve ignored the “Nay Sayers” for 20 years and that you’ve had an amazing life with incredible experiences. It is a testament that everything is possible when you’re determined to do so!

      Thanks for sharing!! 🙂

  68. Hi ,

Thanks for this amazing post my dream is not to make an Around the world trip , but to be a singer , i know i have the talent , i have been invited to perform ( and have 2 performances next week) i have the will power ,but my parents are giving me a hard time because of it , i don’t know why are they so mad about it , i’m 19 i just finished high school and got into college , i know i can handle college and music ,even though music is what i want to live with .For a split second i thought my parents were right , that i m not going anywhere with this , but after reading this , i jut got 1000 % sure that music will be my life , i’m not giving up on anything , BUT i wont give up my Dream .

    Thank You so Much

    1. Hi Antonio –
Thanks for your comments and for sharing your dream with us. I like that you are sure that you love singing, that it is your passion, and that you won’t give it up for anything. That is the positive thinking that will keep you moving forward. It is understandable why parents might go against unconventional paths, but it will be your job to educate them slowly on what it really means for you to be a singer, and most importantly, prove to them that you can handle it by working hard on it and delivering results.

I encourage you to keep moving forward and wish you the best of luck!

      Cheers!

  69. you are a selfish person if you follow your dreams at the cost of causing others pain. My husband has sent me on a continual coaster ride over the past decade-boats, horses, college degrees that dont pan out and are useless. Now he is talking coal business. My children and myself have lost our home, our car, schools my children loved. We currently live in a hotel. He tells me now that he is going to change and work, all to find out that he is now going after coal business. It never stops! Crazy stupid dreamers like you put others through hell. You want to be someone? Try caring-try being there for someone. This life is not all about you. If you spent half the time you think of yourself on someone else you and everyone else would be better off.

    1. Hi Jcr –

I’m sorry you’ve had this experience with your husband. It’s one thing to follow your dreams, and another thing is to follow your dreams without without any consideration of the effect it might create on others. I obviously don’t know how your husband decided to follow his dreams, but I still congratulate him for doing it. It is normal for people to fall when they try something new, but the important thing is to learn from that experience and apply it towards the next venture.

Now, that being said, you said that you lost pretty much everything. Again, I’m sorry for that. An important part of being a “dreamer” is to also be a good planner and to execute the plan as needed. There’s a possibility that all that could have been avoided if there was a plan in action. The problem is not the “dream”, it is how the “dream” was executed. But again, I don’t know how your husband did it, so I’m basing it on what you said.

And, being a “crazy stupid dreamer”, like you say, is not being selfish. “Crazy stupid dreamers” like me DO CARE about OTHER PEOPLE, so please, don’t judge everyone based on your bad experiences. Life is not all about me, but I’M THE ONE IN CONTROL OF MY LIFE TO LIVE IT AS I DESIRE AND THE WAY IT MAKES ME HAPPY, NOT AS OTHER PEOPLE THINK IT SHOULD BE.

      Thank you!

  70. My wife stopped me from fulfilling my dreams. I wanted to become a Doctor and was in Medical School. We lived too far away. She wouldn’t move closer or look for a job near the school. I started working and tried to return many times. Every time she would scream, cry or tell me I couldn’t do it. Here I am 18 years later seething with resentment and she says, “Sorry.” Yeah, that helps! Thanks for looking out for me.

    1. Jim, I’m sorry that happened to you, but it is never too late to do what you really want. If becoming a Doctor is still your dream, why not sacrifice a long commute to fulfill it? I know how it feels getting a negative feedback from the people you love the most, but sometimes proving them wrong (in a proper way) is a way to let them know that you are serious about it and that you can work hard to achieve what you really want. In the end, they’ll be proud of you because you made it, even with the challenges on the road.

      Go forward! 🙂

    2. Jim, I agree with Norbert. I once heard a saying (probably in a romantic comedy) and it goes something like this … if you lose sight of your dreams, you die. There’s also another saying … change is good. Perhaps you, or your selfish wife, needs a new outlook in life and leave behind the negativity. Go for a new, better, challenging and more fulfilling life Jim! We’re behind you all the way!

      1. Oh Geez, I heard that quote too and I can’t remember which movie it was! Jim, like Wacky Adventurer said, change is good. Facing challenges proactively is also good since they can teach you a lot about life and yourself. Do leave behind the negativity and face forward believing in yourself. I’m with Wacky Adventurer, we’re behind you all the way! 😉

  71. My dream is be a genealogist. I love learning about my heritage and my people’s stories especially, but I could spend all day watching Henry Gates Jr’s show on PBS and learning about people’s families/ancestors. The way ordinary lives come to life…it just enraptures me. I want to share stories like this and connect people with their family. I’ve only been doing it for 2yrs (I’m 25 almost) but I feel more fulfilled then I’ve ever felt…and the connections I’ve made – wow! I must admit I am scared because I’m in grad school and spent a lot of money. But because of these feelings I’ve had and feeling burned out already with career path, I know I should keep dreaming and chasing my true life purpose.

    1. Hi Ashia –
I agree with you that you should keep working hard to chase that dream you have. You never know what’s up ahead, so you should do your best to guide your life towards where you would want it to be. Best of luck with your dreams!!

  72. I love traveling the world its awesome and as a result its generated new ideas and more dreams thats what i got from it personally. Its changed my life. The last 3 years have been shit but ive been studying to make upfor it the last 4.

Here are some of my own quotes you should love em there true for me anyway 🙂

1.”Make your own adventures ,and your dreams will follow”

2.I DONT DREAM MY DREAMS I LIVE THEM.I LOVE LIFE, MAKE THE MOST OF IT YOU NEVER KNOW WHATS ROUND THE CORNER

3.My own Personal Quote on Travel
“For me Travel is an Education. It open’s our heart & Soul and puts us in a position of Risk, having to entrust ourselves in strangers and the elements of Nature .It give’s us new life experience’s, both Positive and Negative that we can learn from. The world is an amazing place, disrespect it at your own peril. Adventure begins from the day we are born ! Life…. Embrace it ,Feel it, and live it! because once its gone its gone” 😀
    Robert Bailey

next for me is a degree in Marine Biology and Oceanography, then a phd then sail around the world and then retire early running my own business abroad thats my dream that im creating and achieving. 🙂

    1. Hi Robert –

Thanks for your quotes! I do agree with them! I wish you the best with your upcoming studies and your sailing trip around the world! It’s all an adventure to enjoy life! 😉

  73. Thank you for this. I’m 13, and my dream is to become a concert pianist, but my parents tell me that “it’s not practical”, “you won’t make any money”, and “it’s not a proper job”. And it’s hard since I only started playing a few months ago so I’m still a beginner. I’m already playing intermediate/advanced level pieces, but my parents haven’t given me a single word of encouragement, and sometimes they even keep tearing me down, and I’m terrified that I won’t be able to achieve my dream because I love the piano more than anything and there’s nothing else I can imagine doing and I’ll never be able to stop . . . sorry if this isn’t very coherent. I’m a little confused, and sad.

    1. Hi Mikayla – I know how you must feel by not having the support from your parents, but I say that if playing the piano is something you truly truly love, you should keep practicing. Master it and impress everyone with your skills. Still, to make a living out of it might take some time, so do keep developing your live in many other ways, like studying for a career and becoming a professional. If being a pianist is what you want and you work hard on it, you’ll see that in the end it will surpass everything else in your life and you’ll feel like you’re living your passion.

      Wish you the best!

  74. OMG, this is very inspiring. thank you very much. actually, i got rejected days ago and it made me really sad. it seems that i made serious mistakes that i cannot fix. but then after reading this, i realize that i did something right. it’s ok if i made mistakes on my past, as long as i can learn from it and rise up afterward. in fact, i didn’t succeed on the first try, but i will try again with more intelligent way.

    1. I’m glad that you saw the mistakes as something you can learn from and grow as a person. Good luck to you and hope for the best!

  75. Great post Norbert and totally true. Blogging has led us to meet like-minded people; but before we left our lives in Montreal we had a few friends/family members who were wet blankets, downers who poo-poo’ed our ideas. And we’re in our late 40’s, not like we didn’t work and ‘do our time’. You know the truth? People want you to be as conventional as they are and are jealous of your balls to follow your dreams. I won’t say ‘travel at all cost’ like others do…but if you’ve planned for it and can live your life doing what you love, then just do it. If people can’t be happy for you they don’t deserve to be in your life.
    Frank (bbqboy)

    1. Frank, thanks and I totally agree. Anyone who asks me about quitting and traveling, I tell them that it is possible, but they have to plan and work for it. Not because you desired to quit means you’ll be able to have smooth sailings to travel or do anything else. You need a plan and you need to know how to put it in action. If you’re capable of that, and are confident you can sustain yourself, by all means, take the plunge!

  76. I really liked what you said, but it still didn’t give me enough hope to think I can actually accomplish my dreams. What if what you want doesn’t seem possible even to you? What if society has taken away all my hope even if I’m still so young? What can I do to gain it back?

    1. Leticia, sometimes we really want something and don’t know how to achieve it, but that shouldn’t stop us. If you don’t try, then the only thing that’s certain is that you’ll accomplish nothing. When I started my round the world trip I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to sustain myself on the road for a year. It’s been over three years now and I’m still doing it. I took the leap of faith even when I wasn’t sure how to do it.

If you lost your hope, the first thing you must do to gain it back is believe in yourself, believe you have the will and power to do what you want, and work hard to achieve it! 😉

  77. Everyone seems to be carefully controlling me so I will fail and no success before I start,, I told them what I am doing and they dont believe in me doing it. I have many passions and I am pursuing them all, and they dont support this, they believe one person has one purpose. I have been waiting until now to be able to achieve all of my dreams and I never enjoyed my childhood . And I am in chronic pain all my adult life and suffering since childhood and did anyone give half a fuck?? Of course they fucking didnt give half a fuck.

    1. I’m sorry to hear that, Je, but the best way to move forward and achieve what you really want in your life is to focus and work hard on those things. Also, it is always good to surround yourself with people who have a positive attitude towards what you want to do and accomplish, whether in person or online. Try looking online for a Facebook group or forum of people who have your same passions. Talk to them, get some feedback, and who knows, they can even be a bigger inspiration and support for you!

  78. Hey, even tho I dont know you ,I’m so happy for you,you must be the happiest person alive haha at least that’s what I would feel if i fulfill my dream . Im almost 18 and my dream is to become a professional football player , it seems impossible but I think about it every day and sometimes I cry before I go to sleep , I live in tunisia (a developping country) where I study in a pioneer highschool(where the best pupils go) and expected to get a high score in the bac exam to go abroad and continue my studies, but that’s far from what i dream to do , i feel like not doing what i love is going to destroy me and im gonna regret it for the rest of my life

    1. Ala, thank you for your comment and sorry for my late reply. I have to say you live in a very beautiful country, one of my favorites! I understand what you’re saying. Sometimes, it is necessary to make some sacrifices in order to prepare ourselves better for what we really want. I’m sure your parents are looking to give you the best, and this is how they believe you’ll get the best. You don’t see it that way because that’s not your dream or goal, but what if you could use those studies to take you to your goal? What if studying abroad will get you closer to the possibility of becoming a professional football player?

As much as I encourage people to follow their dreams, I also encourage them to study and get a proper education. Knowledge is power, and knowledge can take you a long way. This is just me, but think is studying and playing football at the same time is doable for you. It might be a sacrifice, but it might pay well in the long term. 😉 Whatever you do, don’t lose track of what really drives you and keep pursuing your dreams and goals.

  79. This was very inspiring to read. I have a ton of interests but wildlife photography is my main one. Id love to just travel and spend endless hours observing animals. What should I get my bachelors in? Photography? wildlife? Its also something that my parents dont really like. They struggled all their lives and really ant me to work in the medical field. If I can just have some words of advice 🙂 Should I start a wildlife photography blog?

    1. Vanessa, thanks for your words. Well, what you get your bachelor depends on what you’re most passionate about. I don’t know how your parents are, but when you make your decision, think more about you and your future, not about what your parents or other people think is “best.” Think, if I study X, will I be happy ten years from now when I will be working as Y?

I know that the medical field has been tested and proven to be economically comfortable if you’re good in it and if you love it, but if you have no interest in it, you’ll simply be miserable while studying it and working it.

Like you recommended, start a wildlife photography blog and see where that takes you. Take your time to improve your skills and become a professional, even under your own terms. Start selling your images online and get to know the industry. Who knows, you could do great things if this is something you truly crave doing.

      Hope this helps!

  80. I have always had the dream of traveling, but I also met a girl that I like a lot(you can say she is my dream girl). I have little money but I am also doing what ever I can to make money for hopefully the day I ask her to marry me. My problem is my entire family is against me (very long story) for both reasons, and my boss is treating to fire me if I take a day off to figure things out. I need to take off a certain day during the week, but I don’t know what I should do exactly. Please help as soon as possible.

    1. Update: I did end up getting fired for that reason. I did not care thought, I didn’t like that job either way. I have another one which is better, but I still do want to leave, I’m thinking of leaving somewhere around May. I am trying to save as much money as I can, and I will hopefully go to China first and go on from there(unless there are other recommendations). I think I will work for a few months at every location I visit, to keep up with money. I hope that will workout well, but I will find out when I leave(unless of course there are any recommendations).

  81. I’m 33 years old woman who is never afraid to dream but what constrain me to the point of travelling are my parents.

Your post is very inspirational. I loved the positivity that has been input towards everybody including myself. Thus, I can’t make my parents change their mind and letting me go and travel out. It’s not a group travelling out, it’s just me – solo. So, I’m constrain to my corner just dreaming. I yearn so much to experience what life is ahead out of my comfort zone. I do not know how to say to my parents anymore to let me go than just to oack my bags and go.

    1. Hi Nisa –

I completely understand your situation. I believe you should slowly educate your parents on your goal and dream of traveling and let them know how this is something you want to do in order to reach X,Y,Z goal in your life. Maybe, you can take baby steps too by traveling solo to nearby places for a short time. Once they see that you’re capable of doing that, you might be able to easily travel the world.

  82. Other than being an inspirational post I think your choice of words are so fluffy and uplifting. My love ones believe success is measure by a big bank account along with a prestige positions such as: Doctor, teacher, and lawyer.

When I present my dreams to them, they gave me the look like I’m speaking a foreign language. How do I tell my love ones that sometime I need love and acceptance more than advice?

    1. Hi Ara –

Yes, a lot of people see success that way. On how to tell your loved ones about your dreams, make sure you tap on the feeling. Tell them exactly how you feel and how you think this experience might change your life. Make sure you help them understand that YOU arew responsible of the decisions you make in your life, but it is YOUR responsibility to direct your life to where you want to go. It iwll not be easy, so you need to see this also as a slow educational process with your loved ones and take them step by step by showing them through small actions that you are capable of doing this.

  83. Don’t fall into the trap of selling yourself bare or settling for less than what you are capable of. Let it be ours to be the great inspiration to our children.

  84. As you get older, don’t regret what you did before you learned how to do things differently… just listen now, because sometimes things don’t always go as planned.

    1. Hi Fran – Well, don’t mean to sound light on a recommendation, but I guess quoting Taylor Swift here falls nicely:

“And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate
Baby I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake
      Shake it off”

Really… It is ok to hear the “haters” if there is constructive criticism (which doesn’t make them so much the haters you dread), but if they are truly hating for no reason, then just ignore them and continue your path.

  85. hello! i’m hana from malaysia. i’ve dreamt about going to north korea in the future too see the country, the people and the culture. i believe korea is a safe country and their korean culture is somehow ‘genuine’ , i mean it doesnt hv western influence compared to the south korea. i believe their people hv a unique lifestyle as they are isolated with their own lives. however, many of my friends gives negative perception about me want to go to north korea. some of them get to the extent of saying that the north korea would use human for their evil experiment and i might no get insurance covered if i died in north korea.i feel sad at how very unsupportive my friends are. you know the feeling when your bestfriend is against your dream. what do you think of my dreams? i stil wanted to go there, despite all the bad news and danger in north korea.

thanks for your feedback. i realllyy appreciate it

    1. Try reading about it on line everywhere, but I think the best thing you have to do is decide will you regret coming to north korea if anything bad happened and think what was I thinking? Or will you regret not going more? For me as I wrote in my comment below my parents are afraid that I might get raped and I honestly would regret not going after my dream than I would regret getting raped, but it needs search on safety precautions the question is how do we start searching info like this?

  86. Awesome. Well, yes i’m actually just 14, but that was legit, man. I feel like taking on following my dream as a electronic music producer and dj as young as I can. My parents didn’t really want me to take on it because of a couple of reasons and I fearing that I might not reach and become part of the circle of great dj’s (Martin Garrix, Dillion Francis, Kygo, and Zedd to name a few), but after what I read, I now feel so pumped up to go on and challenge myself to make my dream successful. You deserve more than a salute, sir. 😀

  87. .thank you so much Norbert . you just don’t know how great you makes me feel with your words. traveling around the world as always be my dreams since I was a child. and have been working towards it everyday of my life. am not there yet but I believe soon i will be there.

  88. Wow! The part where you wrote “there are no rules in life so why should you have to do what people say” that part really stuck to me. I am currently battling two competing priorities and everyone keeps telling me to pick one but its so hard because both of them to me needs to be accomplished. I feel like there’s so much noise from the outside telling me to be more realistic and wait or try something else but to me this is it.

  89. Hello sir,

I love this post and I agree with you in every word. I too have a dream (not related to travelling though) but it involves traveling to one country and settling there, now my parents are extremely worried about me and telling me that I as a girl will be easily raped, kidnapped, …etc so I should not try at all so I don’t regret if any of those happening while these are legitimate worries I don’t want to let go of going after my dream so how do you take saefty precautions when traveling somwhere you know nothing about?

  90. Hi Dear – I am the person who always follow my dreams. I am very much inspired after reading your article. It is giving me energy to follow my dreams. Thanks

  91. I really like the way you write your article. I’m also planning to shift my life into travelling good thing I read this article, so many people around me thumbs down my plan but I dont care about them. I only care about me.

  92. I give glory to the most powerful man on earth, who single handily brought my lover back to me within the period of 48 hours that i contacted him. Firstly my name is luric from Singapore, And i want to introduce to the world about the man be hide the success of my relationship whose name is Dr.akpada and his contact details via email at: (akpadatemple@hotmail.com) And believe me just within the period of 48 hours you will get your lover back…..

  93. Wow! This post just did a magic for me!! I feel stronger right now making a life changing decision.

    Great post. Thank you, Nobert.

  94. Alot of times, I dont know if i will achieve my dreams, my heart my, my body, my skills and my mind are set on it, dedicated and hell intent on achieving it, yet there are challenges, this society, the people, they dont want you to see succeed, they are people who never achieved it in life and bring others down, because they didn’t do it, I left my friends for this reason because i wanna succeed and go on top become a singer and celebrity star like taylor swift, justin bieber, Chris brown. I don’t care what they think about me, and all of you guys too when you try to achieve dreams you will get ups and down, you will be judged by family, by friends, by society, no matter how tough you are,but don’t let it affect you, don’t let it affect your mind, your body and your health, you are far better, ignore them all, and set your mind on achieving it, Once you achieved it then they will be jealous of you. Keep on doing it dedicate yourself to it and you will see the result will bear its fruit. Even if you fail you will learn and grow out of it, but dont let people affect you or judge you for what you are doing.

  96. This article literally made me reconsider my options! This is the best article I’ve ever read yet because it really make you feel like you have to make yourself feel as if your the only one in the world. I would really recommend this to anyone with a big dream.

  97. Thank you for this motivational article full of positive energy
Sometimes we deal with people who speak negative energy, unfortunately

  98. I want to be able to have a massive following having a game streaming channel (I’ve already got a team assembled and we are just playing games and posting vids but no traction yet..) But how can we stand out from the crowd? What could we pivot to be able to make our brand unique and…despite targeting a saturated niche what would you suggest we do?

    1. I know nothing about gaming, but ask yourself, what can you do that no one else is doing that will make you unique? That’s how you stand out in an overcrowded niche.

  99. We already have our why, we are doing this to be able to attend conventions! Showcase my artwork and sell prints, portraits and my own unique comic lines! As well as fanart of our channel and T shirts etc. The why is there but we are still lacking something or missing something. I would love to hear some advice or suggestions!

  100. Please help me with a solution about this
If someone ask you to live his house all because you tell the person that you want to follow up your dream as hip hop musician and the person take you to another country to live with him and also to do the work that he is doing there, but for a time your mind keep telling you that you have to follow up your dream and i don’t really like the work am doing with the person, and when i tell the person that take me out of the country…he say that i need to live his house and when i ask he for money on my transport he said that he can’t give me and there is know one to help me with my transport money even my parents they can’t send me money for my transport because my parents don’t have the money and the person have the money but he don’t what to give me and whenever am doing the working with the person my mind is not there and i really hate the work and also my mind is keep on telling me that i have to follow up my dream i will see someone to help me out if only i can start up with my dream
What did i need to do about this

    1. I really can’t suggest anything specific about this because I don’t know all the details and because this should be a very personal decision that you must make, but think about your safety and well being, both physically and mentally.

The way you describe things sound borderline abusive (with the language you used), so I recommend you think about your wellbeing first (whether it’s with this person or not), and plan for this future you want. Would it mean sacrificing a bit or a lot now? Maybe… Is there a way you can save some money on the side so in an x amount of time you might be able to pay for that transport? It may take weeks, months, or who knows if over a year, but keep that goal in mind.

Prioritize yourself, especially if you’re unhappy in the situation you’re in right now.

    1. Patrick, this is something you must discuss with her, and after several serious discussions, you must debate what is it that you really want to do. Can both of you compromise on some middle ground? Can you find a way to still achieve it with her? Can you ask for her input to see her perspective about it?

  101. Wow…. This has really changed my life now I’m gonna forget about everything and follow my dreams.
I feel so happy and new…… I am so happy I read this article ❤️

  102. I want to be a poker player. I want to travel the world and be the best but I feel unsupported and I feel like I’m horrible at it. I don’t understand why because I love poker.

  103. Doesn’t work for me. I quit my job, because I was earning too little and was burned out. I could not afford to rest, because I needed new employment to pay the bills. I got a contract for an editing job which did not start until later the following month, despite my having begun the application in February.

I found a client for ghostwriting, and she delayed the project, leaving me without enough money to pay the rent. I had to beg my brother for money, for which I feel ashamed (he is 6 years younger than me). I have no support from my family (came from an abusive, traumatic situation), no support from friends, can’t get a loan as I am already in debt, and the local council won’t increase my welfare payments without lengthy assessment.

All of this because I passed up on a steady pay cheque to do flexible hours at a low pay rate, and because I failed to complete my degree. Now every job which fit my ‘dream’ is populated by graduates with years of experience, while I was surviving on low-paid gigs during that same period of time.

I am now in loads of debt, unsure of how I will pay the rent next month, desperately waiting for potential new clients, and having to apply for jobs in other departments. It’s entirely my own fault for having an unrealistic vision in the first place, doing too many things at once, and choosing the comfort of “flexible” work over the discipline required to get a steady paycheck.

    Never following dreams again.

  104. Yeah I have a sibling who chased a dream well into her 50s and never achieved it. It’s ruined her. She’s still chasing it. She has no savings, no career experience. I foresee a trailer home and crap old age. To quote Marylin Manson, when all your wishes are granted, many of your dreams will be destroyed. Sometimes dreams should just stay dreams and this real thing we live in called life should be the thing we should be living.
    Hate to burst everyone’s bubble.

  105. Love this!!
All points are so true. I love your point that says “who doesn’t love challenging the status quo”
Gosh yes!! Made belief rules try to rule our society with no real reason, just because…
    Thanks for sharing Norbert

  106. I love your post! Right now I’m wrestling with myself because I have many dreams and passions that don’t seem to line up. Since I was young, I just knew I was going to be a teacher but gradually my desire began to pursue acting. There are other smaller dreams that can go alongside them but both are things you have to put your all in. I feel like acting may be a selfish dream for me because I’m choosing between kids or my desire.
